Kawasaki KRX 1000 Primary Clutch Overdrive Modification   We can do the modifications on the new 2025 3 arm primary clutch as well as the older 83 and 77 clutches. 

The Overdrive Modification for the KRX 1000 fixes many of the issues and complaints about the CVT clutch on the KRX.

 From the factory the belt on the KRX Primary clutch lacks about a 1\2” from traveling all the way to the top of the primary clutch sheaves, this and other design flaws cause the KRX clutch to be fully shifted to its highest ratio by 45 mph, we increase the axial travel of the belt in the sheaves to achieve a higher final ratio and move that full shift out point to 60 mph, this also increases top speed, lowers cruising RPMs, and allows for better fuel economy.

 When the clutch is at full shift there isa lot of force between the tips of the weights and the rollers and anytime you are 45 mph and above those weights are setting at the tips and wearing and you end up with the wear you see on the tip of the weights, the “Overdrive” modification can help prevent this as it moves the full shift to 60 mph.

 In addition to the higher final gear ratio, we are also achieving an 11% gear reduction on the low end giving you a CVT with a much wider gear range from the bottom to the top, some of the benefits of the modification are…

  • Much less cabin noise, quieter in the cab due to lowered RPM.

  • Increased top speed, the gearing is there to get to 87 -88 mph however it takes power to get there, supercharged machines running this primary are seeing these speeds, stock machines are seeing 76-78 mph if they aren’t loaded down with weight.

  • The ability to run up to 40 mph in Low gear.

  • Better Fuel Mileage.

  • A lower starting gear ratio (11% lower than stock)

  • When you need the power and “mash it” the RPMs jump right up to the 7500-8000 RPM range where the KRX makes its peak power.

  • Cruising RPM are 500-1000 lower across the board.

 

The Overdrive modification includes disassembling and cleaning the primary and all machine work, a lighter primary spring, new heavier weight pin circlips, and self-centering Chromoly pressure plate cap bolts.

We can also machine out the weight pockets and install Titanium wear plates to prevent the steel weights from wearing into the aluminum clutch body for an additional charge.

This modification works very well with factory and all aftermarket weights.

KRX Clutch Refurbishment

 We can refurbish most KRX Primaries, we completely disassemble and clean your worn primary clutch, install new KWI adjustable weights, rollers and slider buttons and install new heavy duty weight pin circlips, we machine out the weight pockets and install Titanium wear plates to prevent the steel weights from wearing into the aluminum clutch body, we resurface or polish the slider towers and shim the sliders to the proper tolerance, we machine and resurface the sheaves to make your worn primary better than new. - Refurbishment starts at $899

 While we are refurbishing your clutch we can add the Overdrive modification and do the additional machine work at the same time, we also add a lighter primary spring and chromoly self centering pressure plate cap bolts as part of the Overdrive modification, the Overdrive modification is only $300 when done at the same time as a refurb, a savings of $250.

 There is a flat return shipping charge of $45 which will include $1000 of insurance in case there is any damage in shipping, we package all return clutches very good to prevent any damage but you never know.
